Spend the 2026 year challenging yourself to learn more about the past through books, research, enrichment projects, field trips, copy work, and more! Included in this download are:

  • Printable calendars for each month, with activity pieces to cut and paste into each month as you complete them
  • Monthly goals:
  1. Quote of the month (opt. copy work)
  2. VIP of the month
  3. Spotlight on Sources
  4. Four challenges per month
  5. Virtual field trip
  6. Historic event of the month

Instructions:

  1. Download and print the document. Hole punch (or slide into sheet protectors) and place in a binder.
  2. Each month, review the monthly goals and organize these into your schedule. Cut/paste your completed goals into the calendar.
  3. Add the Field Trip Summary, Oral History Interview, Enrichment Activity, Book List, Spotlight on Sources, and Reflections sheets as needed.
  4. For each historic person and event, place their timeline card on a timeline of your choosing (you could even make one on your wall with painter’s tape!).
  5. At the end of the year, review the year you’ve spent in the past. What have you learned? What was your favorite part? What would you like to learn about next year?

Additional Suggestions:

This is not meant to be a formal curriculum, but rather topical challenges which will help stimulate curiosity, as well as introduce new information. Feel free to adapt or edit the challenges to suit your student’s needs or abilities.
